Alibaba Launched A New Mobile OS

Alibaba group has launched its own mobile OS called ‘Aiyun’ which will be deployed in the “K-Touch Cloud Smartphone” manufactured by Tianyu. It was long known that Yahoo’s China partner Alibaba will launch a smartphone OS but its launch date was not confirmed.

The China based company is known for its E-Commerce business. It has developed softwares in the past but its move to enter the mobile OS market has came as a surprise.

The ‘Aiyun’ was developed by its cloud services division AliCloud. This OS will be mostly based on cloud services and will include cloud based e-mail, web search, weather updates and GPS navigation tools.

Though it is a good initiative by the company, still it will be pretty tough for it to compete in the Chinese mobile industry as Symbian owns more than half the market of mobile OS. Plus recent collaboration between Apple and some Chinese manufacturers could see their handsets running iOS in future. Google’s pet Android is also trying to find its place in Chinese mobile industry.

If we talk on an international scene, this OS has a little chance to compete with mainstream OS providers as its manufacturers are still inexperienced in the mobile OS scene.

Do you think Alibaba is ready for an international market?
