Spotify Sued By PacketVideo

The collaborator of Facebook has been sued by PacketVideo over patent violations and its music streaming technology. Spotify has recently collaborated with Facebook to provide online music to its users. The lawsuit claims that Spotify violates patents owned by PacketVideo which deal with “method of streaming music over data networks”.

Tech experts were waiting for something of this type to happen as the technology used by Spotify is not unique. Users might have noticed that Spotify, apart from providing music online, has no other USP.

The Britain based online music provider company has started its US services just 2 weeks back and in that short period of time, has a lawsuit up its sleeve.

Spotify said that it will strongly present its side as it is sure that no patent has been violates. The lawsuit has been filed in the Netherlands and San Diego which claim that Spotify has “deliberately” used PacketVideo’s technology.

Spotify is strongly contesting PacketVideo’s claims as according to it, its technology is “highly innovative, proprietary hybrid technology that incorporates peer-to-peer technology”.

Though a hearing has been scheduled, still an agreement could be made outside the court.

Facebook To Reward Security Experts For Reporting Bugs

The social networking giant has begun offering a certain amount of bounty to security experts who will find bugs in the social network and report it to the Facebook administration. The basic bounty for “certain qualifying” bugs has been set to $500.

This is the first time ever that any social networking site is going to pay its active users in return of their services. This feature is also seen by many experts as a way to counter the popularity of Google+.

The Palo Alto based company said that,”Our security team will assess each bug to determine if qualifies”. Furthermore it stated that the bounty of $500 is a base price and it can be increased if the vulnerability reported is big.

It is worth noting that Facebook is desperately trying to improve its security features as its arch nemesis Google+ openly boasts about its tight security.

Facebook recently hired George Hotz, who was sued by Sony Corp. for “degrading its product”. He hacked the PlayStation 3 and is the first person in the history to jailbreak the iPhone.

This is another attempt of the social giant to attract top security experts who give their services to many notable sites.

Google+ After One Month: Will It Grow More Or Not ?

It has been a month since the most awaited social networking website made its debut. As it was predicted by various tech gurus, Google+ saw a huge success in its initial weeks. But at the end of its first month, its traffic has gone down a bit.

Google+ started its journey as the biggest threat to the social networking giant Facebook and made it go in a self defense mode. Facebook launched many new services in response to Google+ as Mark Zuckerberg feared the immense popularity that Google+ enjoyed in its initial days.

If we talk about the journey of Google+, so far it has done pretty well. The biggest achievement of Google+ is that while still being in a field trial stage and an invite only site, it managed to grab 10 million users in its first week and if some reports are to be believed, this figure rose upto 20 million in its second week.

While these facts are amazing, Google+ also saw a loss of around 3.2% of its users at the end of its first month.

The biggest challenge Google+ is facing today is that its user interface is not as simple as that of Facebook’s. Some users find it tough to adjust with the interface as they are used to the simple interface of Facebook. And furthermore, Google+ is not yet open to the organizations, which means no famous brands are there to follow.

Though this is only its first month and in future Google+ may get more traffic but the fact is that users no longer find it interesting as they have no new features to use.

Twitter To Introduce Paid Tweets ?

The micro blogging site Twitter has introduced a new feature which will allow users to promote their tweets by paying a certain amount of fees to the social networking giant.

These type of ads will be visible to users who follow the advertiser’s brand and will be similar to a normal tweet. As far as we know, companies have started using this feature and currently their followers have started receiving their “paid tweets”.

According to TechCrunch, Adam Bian, the global revenue chief of Twitter, said that,“We’ve found that 20 to 40 percent of users follow one or more brands on Twitter. The one problem we’ve heard from users is that when there is exclusive content or deals, there’s a chance they might miss them.”

Though this service is not a surprise as its beta version has been there since March, it is still worth noting that this is the first time that Twitter has deployed its business strategy.

Till date, users are getting tweets only from the brand they follow, but this policy may get updated in future. One thing good about this feature is that companies will have a large social platform to advertise their products.

Now it is time to talk about some issues with this feature. Technogazette has seen these type of ads and we feel that they can be easily ignored as no new feature in these ads has been used. Some users may find them similar to Facebook ads thus there is no original thought.

Users Getting Bored Of Google+?

A few days back, every tech blog was raving about Google+ being the strongest competitor Facebook has ever seen. But users are now finding Google+ not as interesting as they thought it would be when it was launched.

Google+ started superbly with record 10 million users in its first week. It was said that Facebook’s days were gone and Google+ will mark the beginning of a new era. Ranging from startup blogs, even blogging giants were covering great success of Google+. But recent data shows that Google+ traffic has fallen due to users spending very less time on it.

According to a company called Experian Hitwise, Google+’s traffic fell nearly 3.7%. At the first look, this data seems insignificant but if you consider the total population on Google+, which is more than 20 million, it depicts a hell lot of users.

There can be several reasons for Google+ traffic loss. The major reason is that it is still in field testing stage which restricts users to join it without an invitation from an existing member. Another reason is that Google+ is not yet open for organizations which means no fan pages like Facebook.

Though these stats will not be a problem for Google+ in near future, but if it is planning to replace Facebook, this should prove to be a wake up call for it.

Facebook App For The iPad Already There?

The long awaited Facebook app for the iPad might be already in the market. This app has not been officially released yet but it has been found in the code of its iPhone version.

According to TechCrunch, the iPad version of Facebook app was stealthily coded into its iPhone counterpart. This app can be used by anyone who has an iPad but there are slight modifications that the user will have to make in order to use this app.

It has long been said that Facebook is planning to launch an app for the iPad but Facebook has never provided a comment on this issue.

Whenever an app for any Apple product has to be launched, it is first submitted to Apple Inc.

Apple then takes some time in reviewing that app and finally that app is made available for the users. Usually, this whole process takes a lot of time because Apple doesn’t specify the time period of its revisionary process.

Even if the claims of TechCrunch are genuine, this app would require jailbreaking your device to use it and that thing is illegal and Apple will not provide you any warranty if your OS gets malfunctioned in this process.

Our take at this news is that the users should wait a while for the launch of the official app. If you cannot wait, there are hell lot of apps available to access Facebook that don’t need tampering with your device.

Google+ Planning To Start Social Gaming?

It seems that Google+ will not rest until it replaces Facebook as the largest social network. A recent find shows that Google+ is about to launch its gaming section and your high scores will be shared and displayed on Google+ stream. It also means that Google is planning to evolve Google+ Stream as a central gaming hub that will show results based upon your scores.

This news was first found at Google+ Help Pages where it was written that,”If you’re looking for updates shared from games, check out your Games Stream”. These words were immediately removed as this news started spreading like forest fire.

If Google+ is really going to launch this service, Facebook will have to think of something unique that could bring back its glory. Else, Facebook is sure to meet its end like MySpace did.

This new service was the center of attention ever since Google+ was launched. Vic Gundotra, senior vice president at Google Social, himself hinted that a new gaming service might be on its way.

All of us know that Facebook games have revolutionized the concept of social gaming. Millions of Facebook users play games like Farmville everyday. If Google+ wants to replace Facebook, its gaming service should be upto the scratch and that task is not easy.
