PlayStation Vita Hits stores in Japan

Good news for PlayStation fans. The long awaited PlayStation Vita is now available in Japan. It was launched in the market yesterday. This was the biggest launch ever for any Sony product since the launch of legendary PlayStation 3 and that too was five years ago. Thousands of fans throughout the country rushed to their nearby stores and lined up in the early morning to lay their hands on the successor of PlayStation Portable(PSP.

PlayStation Vita has a touch interface with motion sensing ability. Gamers can connect their devices via mobile networks or Wifi hotspots to play multiplayer games. With GPS functionality, this gadget has a lot more to offer as compared to the other gaming consoles of the same category.

There are two cameras in Vita, one on the front and the other on the back. Plus there is even a touch pad on the back and there are two joystick buttons which can be used in the multiplayer games.

Sony Corp expect Vita to be a huge success. 2011 has been a pretty bad year for Sony so far. Earlier this year, Sony PlayStation Network(PSN) was targeted by a massive cyber attack after which a large number of customers decided to shift their attention to other gaming consoles available in the market.

According to market reports, Sony has suffered huge losses, approximately of $1 billion this year. All it needs is a breakthrough in sales, so that it can cover up the losses in gaming sector as well as other fields.

Google gets Patent for Driverless Car

Google has been granted a patent for driver-less cars which is related to the method of shifting the control of a vehicle from human to the vehicle itself. Google has been experimenting with this technology for a while and applied for this patent in the month of May this year but did not made it public at that time.

According to Google, the technology makes use of two sets of sensors. The first pair determines a landing strip when the car has to be stopped and the second pair tells the vehicle its location and its destination. This can be used to find a suitable parking place where the vehicle can make transition into full autonomous mode.

The concept of self driving vehicles is not new. It has been researched by some universities(funded by Google) and some individuals over a long period of time. Various prototypes have been made available to the public over the years but this is the first time that a major company has been awarded a patent in this regard.

No doubt that this technology can be of a greater use in scenarios where the human reaction becomes very slow. For example, it can come handy while driving at a continuous stretch. Still a lot of work has to be done to make it economically available to the general public.

What do you think? Will Google be able to develop the Cars of the future?

Salesforce.com Signs Definitive Agreement to Acquire Rypple

Salesforce.com has acquired Rypple, a provider of social software to the big tech giants like Facebook. The terms of the acquisition have not been made public yet. With this acquisition, Salesforce.com has entered the venture of human resource software and this is being seen by many as an attempt to challenge the huge user base of SAP AG and Oracle Corp, both of which occupy the top positions in this sector.

According to the official website of Rypple, it helps managers ensure their teams get the continuous feedback they need to stay aligned, learn faster, and consistently achieve their goals. Plus since most of its clients are the big players in the tech and social industry, we cannot doubt about its capabilities.

According to Executive Vice President of Salesforce.com John Wookey, they are developing HR software which can be used by various companies for recruiting, training and monitoring their employees. Salesforce.com will become a major player in the social media after this acquisition.

On the other side, when asked about this acquisition, the executives of both Oracle and SAP AG declined to comment.

Both Oracle and SAP AG see Salesforce.com as a major rival as they have spent a lot of money and resources in past to compete with Salesforce.com in the area of web based programs.

Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus hits the market

Good news for Android fans! One of the most awaited Android phones has arrived in the smartphone market today. Yes, we are talking about the Galaxy Nexus which features Android 4.0 commonly known as Ice Cream Sandwich. It is available on Verizon Wireless for $299 on contract.

It should be noted that Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus is the first Android phone in the United States to feature Ice Cream Sandwich. Galaxy Nexus is a thin smartphone featuring 4.65 inch Super Amoled display. It runs on a dual-core processor and has a 5 megapixel rear camera which can record HD videos upto 1080p. It also has a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera which can be used to make video calls.

Apart from these cool hardware features, it has got the Ice Cream Sandwich, which is renowned for its superb features. It enhances multitasking and is overall better than the previous versions of Android in terms of simplicity

Since Galaxy Nexus is available on Verizon, users will be able to use Verizon’s fast 4G LTE network. Though it is not a great deal, but still, it can be a bliss to the users who want high speed internet connection.

With the launch of Galaxy Nexus, the ongoing battle between Android based smartphones and the iPhone will surely get some more fuel. Currently, Apple Inc. and Samsung, which is the hardware manufacturer of Galaxy Nexus, are in the middle of lawsuits over the so called patent infringements by Samsung in its Galaxy range of products. And the rivalry between Google and Apple dates back to the release of the Android platform.

It will be interesting to see whether the coalition of Apple’s rivals pose any threat to its products.

HTC To Invest In Dr. Dre’s Beats Electronics

HTC is about to invest $300 million in Dr. Dre’s Beats Electronics, maker of the famous Beats By Dre headphone line. This deal will eventually make Dr. Dre the richest rapper in the Hip-Hop world.

Dr. Dre is already one of the wealthiest rappers and producers in the world. He is the man behind famous names like Eminem, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and many more. This deal will make him more richer and ultimately the wealthiest rapper alive.

HTC wants to beat its competitors Samsung and Apple Inc. in the mobile market where the company is slowly losing its influence due to some patent infringement issues.

HTC will have 51% shares in Beats Electronics and will use its technology and influence to market its products more efficiently. Beats Electronics has got a huge number of fans worldwide and seeing this, we can say that HTC’s sales will increase for sure.

Dr. Dre’s worth is nearly $125 million right now and he is one of the few artists who have registered a net worth of $100 million or more. Following this huge investment by HTC, Dre’s worth will rise rapidly and who knows, maybe he’ll cross the $200 million mark.

On the other side, HTC will also be benefited as Dr. Dre’s name is a brand in itself.

RIM Ready To Help UK Police In Tracking Rioters

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion(RIM) has offered to assist UK Police in tracking down rioters after riots broke out in London and other cities. Officially, RIM has not disclosed how it will help cops but we are pretty sure that this assistance will involve access to its BlackBerry Messenger service.

The riots broke out in London after police officers shot a black resident by the name of Mark Duggan, who was a suspect in a gun violence investigation.

People gathered to lead a peaceful march from Broadwater Farm to Tottenham police station demanding justice for Duggan family. The violence broke out after an alleged heated argument between a teenager and a police officer took place.

This offer by RIM is a genuine thing done by the Canadian giant in this situation. It will reduce the time to track down rioters and looters who wreaked havoc in London.

We at Technogazette strongly condemn any act of violence like this. It just shows that how short tempered people have become in this era.

People forgot the real cause of their march which was to demand justice for Duggan family. But justice cannot be achieved by looting and damaging property of innocent people. Protesters should have thought that someone lost a husband, a father, a son and a brother and by committing such cowardly thing, they were tarnishing his memory.

Our prayers are with Duggan family and everyone who suffered any kind of loss in these riots.

BlackBerry All Set For The iPhone Challenge

RIM(Research In Motion) will be releasing 5 brand new phones including its first ever all-touch screen phone within weeks. RIM has taken more than a year to release its new models and is expecting that this move will bring back its lost reputation.

These phones will be available on more than 200 carriers worldwide and are meant to increase RIM’s market share. Though this is a good news for BlackBerry lovers, these phones are not expected to generate a lot of success for the company.

The Canada based company is currently facing its worst time in the smartphone market. Recently it fired nearly 2000 of its employees in order to provide financial stabilization to the company.

RIM’s stock has fallen upto 68% and it is not expected to rise quickly. A lot of reasons are responsible for RIM’s failure but the delay in launching new phones is the major one.

Apple is going to launch the iPhone 5 in this fall and a lot of Android phones will be rolling around that period too. RIM will face a tough challenge from the world’s leading manufacturers in near future.

No detailed specifications were available till this post was written. We’ll keep you updated.
