Gmail Introduces Preview Pane

Gmail has introduced a new feature in the form of Preview Pane which will enable users to browse emails when they are replying to some other at the same time. This feature was long awaited and was finally launched yesterday.

Preview Pane may be a new feature for PC users but it has been there for a while in Gmail’s tablet apps. Users of iPad and Android based tablets are familiar with Preview Pane.

This feature is now available in Gmail Labs and its design is almost identical to that of its counterpart used in tablets.

When a user activates Preview Pane, a three window panel opens up with Preview Pane in between the navigation and email panes.

Users can customize Preview Pane as per their need with the help of a settings button which is present at the top right corner of Gmail.

Users with high resolution screens will get the most of this feature but those with normal resolution need not to worry as Preview Pane will work fine with their screens also.

Though this feature sounds good but a lot of work is needed to make it better. We’ve used this feature and drawn a conclusion that it is still a beta product and it needs a lot of testing. It does not work well with Gmail labels if used in 3 panel mode.

Will you be using this feature?

Mark Zuckerberg’s Sister Leaves Facebook

Randi Zuckerberg, the marketing director of Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg’s sister has left her job at Facebook. She resigned from her post after returning from a three month long maternity leave. Facebook has confirmed this news and stated that,”We are grateful for her important service”.

Randi announced that she will be launching her own social networking website, RotZ Media, which will aim at socializing business on the Internet.

Randi Zuckerberg was an employee of Facebook ever since its launch and she said that it was one of the toughest decisions of her life to leave Facebook.

“I have spent my years at Facebook pouring my heart and soul into innovating and pushing the media industry forward by introducing new concepts around live, social, participatory viewing that the media industry has since adopted,” Randi added.

According to Zuckerberg, her future website will work with media in new and more social ways and interaction with media will be innovative rather than a formality.

At this point of time, we cannot say much about RotZ Media as no information about it is available at the moment but one thing about which we are sure is that Facebook will try to fill her position as soon as possible as Facebook’s business relies on marketing mostly.

And who knows, we might find a familiar face from other companies at Facebook.

Apple Replaces Nokia As The Largest Smartphone Maker

Good news for all you Apple fans out there. Apple Inc. has knocked Nokia off from the position of largest smartphone maker of the world. From the last 15 years, Nokia was the king of mobile industry. But the American giant has beaten it and finally taken its place.

According to the sale report disclosed by Nokia, it sold 16.7 million smartphones globally in the second quarter while Apple Inc. sold 20.34 million iPhones all over the world in its second quarter.

This can be seen as the beginning of a new era in the smartphone industry as the king of mobile industry has lost its crown. It is worth noting that Apple Inc. is only 4 years old in smartphone market and in that short period, it has achieved huge success as compared to other smartphone manufacturers.

In February this year, Nokia announced that it will be dropping Symbian platform in its new handsets. This move is one of the major reasons for Nokia’s downfall. Though Nokia will be using Windows 7 platform, still its sales are not expected to be in competition with Apple in near future.

Nokia seriously needs to consider again its previous decisions, whether it is dropping Symbian or adopting Windows 7 platform. If Nokia doesn’t come up with a new strategy quickly, it will even lose its second position to Samsung, whose smartphones are doing incredibly good business.
