Though not much of a surprise, but still the news that Microsoft is planning to launch a new social search engine is big. It seems that Microsoft is getting ready to enter the social networking market which is the most used service on the world wide web.
A Web Page was discovered by some users that linked to a service called “Tulalip” which had an introductory message reading,“With Tulalip, you can find what you need and share what you know easier than ever.”
This Web Page was found at Socl.com, which was acquired by Microsoft last year. Since social media is a hot topic these days, it was almost expected from Microsoft to launch a social media platform against its rivals Google and Facebook.
Microsoft is facing a tough time as its Windows mobile platform stands nowhere near the Android in the smartphone market. We think that in order to remain in competition with Google, Microsoft is trying to introduce a competitor for Google+, which already is a huge success despite of it being in field trial stage.
This leak was pulled off from the web within 24 hours and Microsoft responded to queries by saying, “Thanks for stopping by. Socl.com is an internal design project from a team in Microsoft Research which was mistakenly published to the Web.”
What do you guys think? Was the leak staged by Microsoft to get attention or was it really a ‘mistake’.
