Samsung Galaxy Tablet Launch Delayed In Australia Due To Apple Suit

Samsung has delayed the launch of its ambitious Galaxy Tablet in Australia as the ongoing lawsuit with Apple Inc. gathers pace. Samsung spokesman said that they are only delaying the launch till some “favorable conditions” are met.

Samsung Electronics is the biggest competitor of Apple in smartphone and tablet markets because of its cost effective products and its ability to provide better services at the minimal cost.

Apple sued Samsung Electronics in April this year over patent infringement issues. The Cupertino, California based company claims that Samsung has copied the iPhone and the iPad’s design in its Galaxy range of products.

A Sydney court has provided an injunction which prohibits Samsung to release its Galaxy Tab. Samsung has confirmed that Apple filed for an injunction but at the same time, it declared that this will not affect sales of its Galaxy tab.

This injunction cannot be lifted without agreement with Apple which means that the future of the Galaxy Tab depends completely on this lawsuit and even more on the future relations between both these tech giants.

Spotify Sued By PacketVideo

The collaborator of Facebook has been sued by PacketVideo over patent violations and its music streaming technology. Spotify has recently collaborated with Facebook to provide online music to its users. The lawsuit claims that Spotify violates patents owned by PacketVideo which deal with “method of streaming music over data networks”.

Tech experts were waiting for something of this type to happen as the technology used by Spotify is not unique. Users might have noticed that Spotify, apart from providing music online, has no other USP.

The Britain based online music provider company has started its US services just 2 weeks back and in that short period of time, has a lawsuit up its sleeve.

Spotify said that it will strongly present its side as it is sure that no patent has been violates. The lawsuit has been filed in the Netherlands and San Diego which claim that Spotify has “deliberately” used PacketVideo’s technology.

Spotify is strongly contesting PacketVideo’s claims as according to it, its technology is “highly innovative, proprietary hybrid technology that incorporates peer-to-peer technology”.

Though a hearing has been scheduled, still an agreement could be made outside the court.

Investors Doubt HTC’s Growth Due To Apple Lawsuit

Investors have started doubting HTC’s future growth as the Taiwanese firm is amidst a lawsuit with Apple Inc. Investors have talked to HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou, over this issue and he has guaranteed them that this lawsuit will not have any effect on the company’s growth.

Chou addressed the company’s investors at an investor conference and seemed confident that this “distraction” with International Trade Commission and Apple Inc. will not affect HTC in any aspect.

Apple recently sued HTC over patent infringements and ITC slammed HTC by issuing a ruling in Apple’s favor. The patents which, according to Apple, were violated by HTC deal with how the phone handles data sent to it from other devices over a network and how a device opens an e-mail.

HTC has recently purchased S3 Graphics with an intent to increase its $300 million net price tag. Chou also stated that HTC was closely following the tablet market and plans to be more competitive by launching new products in near future.

Whatever Chou claims, HTC is currently under a fierce battle with Apple. Some days prior, HTC indicated that it wants to settle its differences with Apple with a series of talks.

Google Buys Patents From IBM

Following its habit of securing its “intellectual property”, Google has purchased a hell lot of patents from IBM. The Mountain View, California based company has secured over 1000 patents from the New York based tech giant.

The patents transferred by IBM to Google include a vast area of products ranging from microprocessing chips, regional databases to memory fabrication and architecture. In an email, Google said that,”Like many tech companies, at times we’ll acquire patents that are relevant to our business”.

But on the other side, no comment was provided by IBM on this matter. It is rumored that IBM has got a huge amount of money from Google in this deal and may have got access to several of Google’s other patents. This might mean that IBM may use Android platform in future.

Google has been sued by many tech companies for its Android OS and recently, it was sued for its anti-competitive actions. Thus the American giant was in a desperate need to secure its so called “intellectual property”.

Our take on this news is that Google is playing a smart game here. It is a well known fact that more than half of the smartphone companies are using Google’s pet, the Android platform.

Google already has patented its Android platform and is currently trying to get the rights of every technology that is linked to it.

Apple To Sue Samsung Over White Galaxy S II ?

Apple is planning to sue its top competitor Samsung over its ambitious plan to launch the white Galaxy S II. Apple and Samsung are already fighting a lawsuit which says that the Korean giant has copied the iPhone and iPad’s design in its Galaxy range of products.

Though Apple and Samsung are business partners(Samsung manufactures Apple’s A4 chips) but ever since Apple Inc. started to sue its Korean partner, both have turned bitter rivals.

This rivalry can be dated back to the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy range of products when Apple first sued it for “deliberately copying” the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2.

Apple is thinking that these lawsuits might make Samsung more heedful about its future devices but it doesn’t seem so.

Samsung has announced that after seeing its Galaxy S II’s huge success, it is planning to launch a white edition of it in Britain later this year. Moreover, the leaked photos of the white Samsung Galaxy S II are already flooding the Internet.

Both these tech giants are making superb products but had they been into a healthy competition, users surely would have been benefited.

Will these companies ever think of resolving their feuds outside the court?

HTC To Compromise With Apple?

If you thought that Apple and HTC could settle their scores only in the court, you might be wrong. HTC is going to initiate talks with Apple Inc. over their copyright and patent dispute.

HTC’s CFO Winston Yung told media persons that,”We (Apple & HTC) have to sit down and figure things out”. This statement comes after HTC started using harsh words against Apple and began criticizing it openly.

HTC and Apple are arch nemesis. Both are smartphone giants and generally are in neck-to-neck competition. Apple had sued HTC for patent infringement of its iDevices. HTC has appealed against this and a hearing is scheduled in a few days.

HTC was also slammed up by ITC(International Trades Commission) over infringement of Apple patents. It seems that HTC had no other option than settling this matter with Apple Inc. outside the court.

Even if HTC chooses to fight the legal battle, there is only a little chance of it winning against Apple, whose case according to experts is pretty strong.

We must get ready for surprises as HTC may have to change some of its products as Apple is very strict about copyright issues.

Whatever may be the result of this feud, one thing is sure that the end result is sure to benefit the winning side in the long term.
