Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus hits the market

Good news for Android fans! One of the most awaited Android phones has arrived in the smartphone market today. Yes, we are talking about the Galaxy Nexus which features Android 4.0 commonly known as Ice Cream Sandwich. It is available on Verizon Wireless for $299 on contract.

It should be noted that Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus is the first Android phone in the United States to feature Ice Cream Sandwich. Galaxy Nexus is a thin smartphone featuring 4.65 inch Super Amoled display. It runs on a dual-core processor and has a 5 megapixel rear camera which can record HD videos upto 1080p. It also has a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera which can be used to make video calls.

Apart from these cool hardware features, it has got the Ice Cream Sandwich, which is renowned for its superb features. It enhances multitasking and is overall better than the previous versions of Android in terms of simplicity

Since Galaxy Nexus is available on Verizon, users will be able to use Verizon’s fast 4G LTE network. Though it is not a great deal, but still, it can be a bliss to the users who want high speed internet connection.

With the launch of Galaxy Nexus, the ongoing battle between Android based smartphones and the iPhone will surely get some more fuel. Currently, Apple Inc. and Samsung, which is the hardware manufacturer of Galaxy Nexus, are in the middle of lawsuits over the so called patent infringements by Samsung in its Galaxy range of products. And the rivalry between Google and Apple dates back to the release of the Android platform.

It will be interesting to see whether the coalition of Apple’s rivals pose any threat to its products.

Google Accuses Microsoft And Apple Over “Bogus Patents”

The “battle of patents” between tech giant Google and its rivals Microsoft and Apple Inc. is in news again. Google has accused its rivals of buying some technology patents with a soul motive to hold back Android.

Google’s lawyers claimed in a blog post that Microsoft and Apple are playing dirty game of using so called “bogus patents” against Google’s Android.

Google’s chief legal officer David Drummond stated that Android’s success has forced its rivals to unite and to use cheap tactics against the open source OS.

He further stated that patents are meant to safeguard intellectual property and to increase innovation but now-a-days they are merely being used by some companies to stop others from succeeding in their goals.

Google has lost a lot of patents in past months, mostly owned by Novell and Nortel, which relate to the technologies that can be used in smartphones especially in the Android OS. Most of these patents were bought by an alliance between a number of tech companies which was lead by Microsoft and Apple.

Google’s accusation seems genuine for the time being as fighting with an individual competitor is one thing but fighting a battle against an alliance of its competitors is a very tough thing and chances of Google winning this battle are nearly zero.

BlackBerry All Set For The iPhone Challenge

RIM(Research In Motion) will be releasing 5 brand new phones including its first ever all-touch screen phone within weeks. RIM has taken more than a year to release its new models and is expecting that this move will bring back its lost reputation.

These phones will be available on more than 200 carriers worldwide and are meant to increase RIM’s market share. Though this is a good news for BlackBerry lovers, these phones are not expected to generate a lot of success for the company.

The Canada based company is currently facing its worst time in the smartphone market. Recently it fired nearly 2000 of its employees in order to provide financial stabilization to the company.

RIM’s stock has fallen upto 68% and it is not expected to rise quickly. A lot of reasons are responsible for RIM’s failure but the delay in launching new phones is the major one.

Apple is going to launch the iPhone 5 in this fall and a lot of Android phones will be rolling around that period too. RIM will face a tough challenge from the world’s leading manufacturers in near future.

Samsung Galaxy Tablet Launch Delayed In Australia Due To Apple Suit

Samsung has delayed the launch of its ambitious Galaxy Tablet in Australia as the ongoing lawsuit with Apple Inc. gathers pace. Samsung spokesman said that they are only delaying the launch till some “favorable conditions” are met.

Samsung Electronics is the biggest competitor of Apple in smartphone and tablet markets because of its cost effective products and its ability to provide better services at the minimal cost.

Apple sued Samsung Electronics in April this year over patent infringement issues. The Cupertino, California based company claims that Samsung has copied the iPhone and the iPad’s design in its Galaxy range of products.

A Sydney court has provided an injunction which prohibits Samsung to release its Galaxy Tab. Samsung has confirmed that Apple filed for an injunction but at the same time, it declared that this will not affect sales of its Galaxy tab.

This injunction cannot be lifted without agreement with Apple which means that the future of the Galaxy Tab depends completely on this lawsuit and even more on the future relations between both these tech giants.

Will Samsung reach an agreement with Apple or will the Australians be deprived of the Galaxy Tab?

iPhone 5 To Be Launched In October ?

The world wide web is currently flooded with rumors about the launch date of Apple’s marvel but still no one has been able to give satisfactory reason for their views. But the news that Apple is going to launch the iPhone 5 in October this year certainly has got a solid base.

According to some insiders, who are watching this matter closely, AT&T which is the major carrier of the iPhone has ordered its employees to work each and every day in the last 2 weeks of September. Furthermore, AT&T has canceled every holiday in that period.

This kind of move by AT&T suggests that it is planning a “big thing” during that period. And we already know that Apple will launch its latest iPhone during that period.

So logically, it can be said that the iPhone 5 will be launched in October rather than September which many tech blogs have predicted.

There is no official specifications of the iPhone 5 provided by the American giant but it is expected that the iPhone 5 will use A5 chips which is currently deployed in the iPad 2.

Is this reason enough to predict the iPhone 5 launch date or is it just another rumor which is loosely based on some insider news?

Apple Inc. Richer Than The United States Government ?

It is a well known fact that Apple Inc. has cash reserves more than any other company but the fact that it is even richer than the United States Government is absolutely fantastic.

Recently Apple announced that its earnings have reached $76 billion due to large sale of its iDevices. The iPhone and the iPad are the most popular products of the Cupertino, California based company.

On the other side, as the deadline to the US debt approaches close, the Treasury Department of United States Government has reported that its bank account has even less than $74 billion and could become zero by early August.

This only shows that the American government and the Corporate America are two worlds apart. While the corporations continue to grow and their combined profits accumulate around $1.2 trillion, the government consistently has lost its cash reserves and its debts are increasing day by day.

According to Apple, these cash reserves will help the company to secure its future as it will ensure that they do not run into any financial trouble like the company had to face during the launch phase of the iPhone 4.

So, should American government start selling the iPhone and the iPad or should Apple take over the running of Washington DC?

Investors Doubt HTC’s Growth Due To Apple Lawsuit

Investors have started doubting HTC’s future growth as the Taiwanese firm is amidst a lawsuit with Apple Inc. Investors have talked to HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou, over this issue and he has guaranteed them that this lawsuit will not have any effect on the company’s growth.

Chou addressed the company’s investors at an investor conference and seemed confident that this “distraction” with International Trade Commission and Apple Inc. will not affect HTC in any aspect.

Apple recently sued HTC over patent infringements and ITC slammed HTC by issuing a ruling in Apple’s favor. The patents which, according to Apple, were violated by HTC deal with how the phone handles data sent to it from other devices over a network and how a device opens an e-mail.

HTC has recently purchased S3 Graphics with an intent to increase its $300 million net price tag. Chou also stated that HTC was closely following the tablet market and plans to be more competitive by launching new products in near future.

Whatever Chou claims, HTC is currently under a fierce battle with Apple. Some days prior, HTC indicated that it wants to settle its differences with Apple with a series of talks.

Will this lawsuit affect HTC or will this matter be solved out of the court?

Apple To Sue Samsung Over White Galaxy S II ?

Apple is planning to sue its top competitor Samsung over its ambitious plan to launch the white Galaxy S II. Apple and Samsung are already fighting a lawsuit which says that the Korean giant has copied the iPhone and iPad’s design in its Galaxy range of products.

Though Apple and Samsung are business partners(Samsung manufactures Apple’s A4 chips) but ever since Apple Inc. started to sue its Korean partner, both have turned bitter rivals.

This rivalry can be dated back to the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy range of products when Apple first sued it for “deliberately copying” the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2.

Apple is thinking that these lawsuits might make Samsung more heedful about its future devices but it doesn’t seem so.

Samsung has announced that after seeing its Galaxy S II’s huge success, it is planning to launch a white edition of it in Britain later this year. Moreover, the leaked photos of the white Samsung Galaxy S II are already flooding the Internet.

Both these tech giants are making superb products but had they been into a healthy competition, users surely would have been benefited.

Will these companies ever think of resolving their feuds outside the court?

Nokia’s Smartphone Sales Down: Slips From 1st To 3rd

Nokia is currently undergoing the worst period it has ever seen in its 15 years of business. First it was thrown from its first place by Apple and now Samsung has kicked it out from its second position in smartphone sales.

Nokia held the crown of being the world’s largest smartphone seller but due to its bad sales and tough competition by Apple Inc. and Samsung has made it ending up at the 3rd position. This is first time in the history of the company that it has been replaced by its rivals.

Apple recently announced its second quarter sales to be around 20.3 million iPhones which is the best till now from the American giant. Samsung also sold over1 19 million smartphones which is far ahead of Nokia, which only sold 16.7 million units.

Nokia did not comment on this but an insider said that this may be due to the low demand in smartphone sector. But had low demand been the cause, Apple’s and Samsung’s sales would have been affected too, so it is not the case here.

Nokia has recently announced that it will be dropping its Symbian platform and has made a deal with Microsoft to use its Windows Phone Platform in its future handsets. With this move, Nokia clearly has lost its USP.

Samsung’s Profit Rises On Mobiles, But Falls On Other Products

The South Korean technology giant is gaining immense profit on its smartphones but is losing its revenues from its other electronic goods. Samsung’s smartphone’s are gaining huge popularity globally, but sadly same cannot be said for its other products.

According to a report, Samsung’s flat screen unit had huge losses in its second quarter and its other electronics suffered same kind of damage. This may be partially due to better alternatives available in the market which provide same features but at comparatively lower costs.

Furthermore, Samsung has failed to provide its users with new services like other Tech giants, Apple and Google, are providing. It is less likely that Samsung will be able to get customers like Apple has got.

Samsung has said that its sales were not good because the whole chip market is suffering from low demand as users get more and more inclined to smartphones as compared to LCDs, LEDs and computers.

If Samsung wants to make its sales comparative to the other manufacturers, it seriously needs to consider providing better services at an affordable price.

Despite its heavy loses, Samsung is going to increase its investment in semiconductors which it thinks will boost up its profits.
